Nesting Bald Eagles Part II
Babies Hatch!
May 7th, 2010
I went out today to check on the nest and Lo Behold, there were two babies peeking out of the nest

They were looking for MOM. She was apparently out looking for food. This Osprey flew by the nest. He didn't hang around. I'm sure Dad was close by.

The Female flew in with a rabbit when I was moving the tripod and I missed the shot Here she is watching over the nest.

This Sunday morning I went down below the nest in the Ranchers field. I can't see the nest from there anymore because of all the foliage. However, I wanted to see if I could see what the Eagles were doing, as I couldn't see them well from the road when they weren't in the nest.

I thought the male was slacking. But nope, he is doing his job! Here is where they are when they are not hunting food. They like the big fir tree that you see in the center of this picture. If you look closely, you will see an eagle at the very top.

I zoomed and cropped in with my 500mm and now you can see both of them in that tree!

They like to fly from that tree to this tree behind the nest. Both trees are out of sight of the road. So they are watching the nest at all times. One watches while the other one hunts.

Went back out to see what was going on. I have to pick a spot where I can see the nest to get the best Eaglet shots. However that means I have to shoot through a hole and it doesn't leave me much room for Eagles in Flight.
Here the Female is coming in.

Very cute Mama and baby looking out, maybe for Papa?

Here she is leaving to join the male who is watching on a nearby tree.

They are laying down the law on their turf to nearby Herons.

Talk about directly overhead. Not the best lighting, but I'll take it.

I went back out this weekend twice. Something interesting every time.

Baby Eaglet... kind of a "ugly duckling". Looks to be shedding it's baby fuzz.

Female watching over the nest from the highest pine tree which is behind me and straight above the car.

Takeoff... to go look for dinner. I cropped in to get a look at those large talons!
Jacks Photography

I had parked my car within 10 feet of the base of the large pine she was sitting on and I don't think she like that!
Jacks Photography

That probably didn't miss by much! LOL

Another photographer was also out there.
